Owl Pellets

Question: How many bones are in your owl pellet?

Protocol: 1. Gather materials: Owl pellet, tray, probing tools, and paper towel. 2. Unwrap owl pellet and measure length and width. 3. Examine pellet for fur or feathers. 4. dissect the pellet and remove all the bones. 5. Identify the bones. 6. count each type of bone.

Materials: Owl pellet, probing tools, tray, and paper towel.

Data/Results: Skulls: 3 Type: Bird, and mole. Jaw: 3 Type: rodent Scapula: 1 Type: Rodent. Forelimb: 20 Type: Mole. Hind limb: 12 Type: Rodent. Pelvic Bone: 2 Type: Mole. Rib: 32 Type: Rodent and Bird. Vertebrae: 13 Type: Rodent and Mole
